General information
Galicia and Santiago de Compostela are Spain’s misty north-west, known for pilgrimage routes, seafood, green landscapes, granite towns, wild coast and a distinct Atlantic identity.
Trips and nature
The region has rías, cliffs, beaches, forests, rivers, rainy hills and dramatic Atlantic headlands. The coast is wilder and cooler than the Mediterranean.
Food and atmosphere
Santiago is the spiritual centre of the Camino, while Galician language, Celtic-Atlantic traditions, fishing towns and seafood culture shape the wider region.
Transport and stay
Santiago and A Coruña have good transport links. A car helps for coastlines, villages, lighthouses and scattered rural areas.
