General information
Lika, Velebit and Plitvice Lakes show Croatia’s rugged inland side, with mountains, forests, waterfalls, karst plateaus and a much quieter rhythm than the coast.
Trips and nature
Plitvice Lakes are the famous highlight, but Velebit adds dramatic mountains, forests, karst, viewpoints and hiking routes between inland Croatia and the Adriatic.
Food and atmosphere
The region is more rural and sparsely populated, with mountain villages, frontier history and strong nature-based identity.
Transport and stay
A car is highly useful. Plitvice is popular and best visited early or outside peak season, while Velebit requires more mountain planning.
