Thessaly, Epirus and Meteora are about mountains, monasteries, stone villages and a less obvious Greek interior.
Trips and nature
The Pindus mountains, Vikos Gorge, forests, rivers and the coast near Parga create one of Greece’s most diverse inland landscapes.
Food and atmosphere
Meteora is unique for its monasteries on rock towers. Ioannina adds Ottoman layers and lake scenery, while Zagori is known for stone houses and bridges.
Transport and stay
Meteora can be reached by train or bus, but Epirus and Zagori are easier by car. The area suits 4 to 7 days of mountains, monasteries and hiking.
