General information
The Ukrainian Carpathians and Transcarpathia are the mountain and culturally diverse face of the country, with meadows, forests, wooden churches, villages, thermal springs, castles and winter resorts.
Trips and nature
The Carpathians are Ukraine’s main mountain region. Hoverla is the highest mountain, Synevyr a famous mountain lake and the polonynas offer beautiful ridge walks.

The area is shaped by Hutsul, Rusyn, Hungarian, Slovak, Romanian and Ukrainian influences. Food is mountain-style: banosh, brynza, mushrooms, borscht, varenyky, smoked products, honey and herbal teas.
Transport and stay
Official safety advice must still be checked. In normal conditions, the area is reached by train, bus or car from Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk or Uzhhorod.
