General information
Belgrade, the Danube and Central Serbia form the natural gateway to the country. Belgrade is social, noisy and full of energy, with river views, cafés, bars, markets, brutalist buildings and historic neighbourhoods.
Trips and nature
The main landscape element is the river. The Danube and Sava give the city promenades, boats, islands and summer life by the water, while the surroundings offer gentle hills and wine areas.
Food and atmosphere
Belgrade mixes Balkan, Austro-Hungarian, Ottoman, socialist and modern layers. Kalemegdan is the key historical point, Zemun feels more Central European and Skadarlija more traditional.
Transport and stay
Belgrade has the main airport and is the national transport hub. A car is not needed in the city, but helps for Avala, Smederevo, Topola and the countryside.
