General information
Stockholm and Mälardalen are the most natural starting point for Sweden. Stockholm spreads across islands and combines water, museums, design, royal history, cafés, neighbourhood life and easy access to nature.
Trips and nature
The region is shaped by water: Lake Mälaren, the Baltic Sea, islands, parks and nearby forests. Stockholm’s archipelago offers one of the easiest ways to feel Sweden beyond the city.
Food and atmosphere
Stockholm has Gamla stan, the Vasa Museum, Skansen, modern galleries, royal sites and strong design culture. Uppsala adds university tradition and cathedral history. Food ranges from cinnamon buns and coffee to seafood, meatballs and modern Nordic cuisine.
Transport and stay
Stockholm has the main airport, metro, trains, ferries and good public transport. A car is not needed in the city, but helps for smaller towns, castles and lake areas.
