General information

Geneva, Lausanne and the Lake Geneva Region show Switzerland from its French-speaking, elegant and international side. Geneva is diplomatic and lakeside, Lausanne is hilly, youthful and cultural, while Montreux is relaxed and scenic.

Trips and nature

Lake Geneva is the main feature, with vineyards, promenades, boats and Alpine views. Lavaux is one of the most beautiful cultural landscapes in Switzerland.

Food and atmosphere

Geneva brings international organisations, old streets and museums, Lausanne the Olympic Museum and cathedral, and Chillon one of the best-known Swiss castles. Food is French-influenced: cheese, lake fish, Vaud wines, chocolate and pastries.

Transport and stay

Geneva has a major airport and excellent rail links. The lakeshore is easy by train and boat, so a car is not necessary.
