General information
Porto, Northern Portugal and the Douro Valley combine one of Portugal’s most characterful cities with wine terraces, granite towns, river landscapes and strong regional food culture.
Trips and nature
The Douro Valley is the scenic star, with steep vineyard terraces, river bends and dry hills. The north also has greener valleys and mountain edges.
Food and atmosphere
Porto is known for riverfront streets, bridges, tiled churches, wine lodges and a proud local identity. The Douro adds port-wine heritage and old estates.
Transport and stay
Porto has an airport and rail links. Trains and river cruises cover parts of the Douro, but a car helps for viewpoints and wine estates.
