General information
Amsterdam and North Holland are the most natural starting point for the Netherlands, combining the capital, canals, museums, historic towns, dunes and easy coastal trips.
Trips and nature
The region is flat, watery and coastal, with canals, polders, dunes, beaches and wide skies. The North Sea coast is a good escape from the city.
Food and atmosphere
Amsterdam has world-class museums, canal architecture, neighbourhood life and a strong creative scene. Haarlem and Zaanse Schans add historic Dutch charm.
Transport and stay
Amsterdam has the main airport and excellent trains, trams and cycling infrastructure. A car is unnecessary in the city and often more trouble than help.
