General information
Pécs, Villány and Southern Transdanubia are one of Hungary’s warmest and most culturally layered regions, with wine, hills, Roman heritage, Ottoman traces and a relaxed southern mood.
Trips and nature
The Mecsek hills, vineyards, warm valleys and rural landscapes make the region softer and sunnier than much of Hungary.
Food and atmosphere
Pécs has Roman, early Christian, Ottoman and university layers, while Villány is one of Hungary’s best-known red wine areas.
Transport and stay
Pécs is reachable by train and bus. A car helps for Villány, wine villages, hills and smaller historic sites.
