General information
Transylvania is Romania’s best-known travel region, combining Saxon towns, medieval centres, castles, fortified churches, mountain scenery, villages and a rich mix of Romanian, Hungarian and German heritage.
Trips and nature
The region is surrounded and crossed by the Carpathians, with forests, valleys, high roads, pastures and mountain villages. It is one of Romania’s best areas for scenic road trips.
Food and atmosphere
Brașov, Sibiu and Sighișoara are the classic urban triangle, while Bran, fortified churches, Saxon villages and Hungarian influences add depth beyond the Dracula clichés.
Transport and stay
Brașov and Sibiu are good bases with rail and road links. A car is useful for villages, castles, fortified churches and mountain roads.
