General information
Turku, the Archipelago Sea and Åland form Finland’s most maritime region, with thousands of islands, ferries, cycling routes, old towns, castles and a strong Swedish-speaking layer.
Trips and nature
The Archipelago Sea is low, rocky and island-filled. Summer is the best season for ferries, cycling, kayaking and slow island travel.
Food and atmosphere
Turku is one of Finland’s historic cities, with a castle, cathedral and riverfront life. Åland has its own island identity, maritime history and Swedish-speaking culture. Food includes fish, rye bread, berries, pancakes, beer and island produce.
Transport and stay
Turku is easy by train from Helsinki. The archipelago requires ferries, bikes, buses or a car, and schedules matter in the season.
