General information
Odesa and Black Sea Ukraine are traditionally the country’s most maritime and cosmopolitan area, with port culture, boulevards, old houses, markets and a mix of many communities.
Trips and nature
The region is defined by the Black Sea, steppe, limans, sandy beaches and the Danube Delta. Current security conditions strongly affect practical travel possibilities.
Food and atmosphere
Odesa has theatre, literary, Jewish and port traditions, nineteenth-century architecture and a distinctive urban humour. Food is southern and maritime: fish, vegetables, wine, borscht, stuffed dishes, markets and cafés.
Transport and stay
Because of the war, this region should not be presented as a normal travel recommendation. Coastal areas, ports and infrastructure may be restricted, and official advice must be followed.
