General information
Paris and Île-de-France are France’s cultural, political and transport centre, combining world-famous museums and monuments with neighbourhood life, parks, markets, food, fashion and royal day trips.
Trips and nature
The region is urban but not without green space: the Seine, city parks, forests, gardens and royal landscapes around Versailles and Fontainebleau offer relief from the dense city.
Food and atmosphere
Paris brings medieval, royal, revolutionary, imperial, modernist and contemporary layers almost street by street. Versailles, Saint-Denis and Fontainebleau add major historical anchors.
Transport and stay
Paris has major airports, high-speed rail stations and extensive metro and suburban rail. A car is unnecessary in the city and usually more trouble than help.
