General information
The Icelandic Highlands are the wild interior of the country. They are not casual sightseeing terrain, but a region for prepared travellers, hikers and serious landscape lovers.
Trips and nature
The Highlands offer lava deserts, colourful mountains, glaciers, rivers, geothermal areas and remote valleys. Conditions can be harsh even in summer.
Food and atmosphere
The region is less about towns and more about routes, huts, old tracks and Iceland’s relationship with wilderness and weather.
Transport and stay
Access is seasonal and often requires a proper 4x4 vehicle. F-roads, river crossings and weather must be checked carefully.
