Serre Chevalier Bike Park

Serre Chevalier has a slightly different mood from the Savoie resorts thanks to its southern Alps setting. Sun, larch forest, drier dirt and the long Guisane valley give the bike park an open, almost Mediterranean feel, even though the riding is still truly mountainous. Trails and MTB routes spread between Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Le Monêtier-les-Bains, so a day can be focused on lift laps or on exploring a longer valley.

The park suits riders who enjoy a mix of flow and more natural terrain. In the forest, corners, roots and faster sections alternate; higher on the slopes, dry ground, stones and sun become more obvious. Beginners should stay with clearly marked easier options and respect the length of the descents; experienced riders will appreciate that the terrain is not sterile and changes with altitude and weather.

Logistics start with choosing where to access the area. Briançon is the most urban base, with rail access and a fortified historic backdrop, while Chantemerle and Villeneuve are practical for quick lift access. Before travelling, check open lifts, trail status and rental availability, because operation can vary between parts of the valley. On hot days, bring water, sun protection and extra caution in dusty braking zones.

Serre Chevalier's charm is that the bike park does not feel cut off from its surroundings. After riding, you can end the day in historic Briançon, by the Guisane river or in a smaller village with a slower rhythm. For a multi-day stay it is a strong area: one day on downhill tracks, another on a calmer MTB route or high mountain outing, always with a clear sense of the southern Alps rather than a generic resort.
