Schöckl Trail Area

Schöckl is Graz’s local mountain, but on a bike it feels far more serious than a quick city-side diversion. The Schöckl cable car lifts riders from Sankt Radegund to a broad summit plateau, from where natural, rooty and rocky lines drop back toward the valley. It suits riders who want a technical day close to town and who enjoy reading terrain rather than just rolling smooth berms.

The area’s sharpest edge is Gedscho, a black downhill course with more than five hundred metres of descent, supported by red lines such as Gibim, Vurnowi, 300er, Silent Hill and Hintnumi. A sensible day starts in the Minibike + Coaching zone or on easier red sections before moving to the steeper downhill and jump lines. The 1000er is an enduro descent toward Graz/Stattegg, not a simple return to the lower cable-car station, so plan the exit before dropping in.

Schöckl is strongest for experienced enduro and downhill riders, though mixed groups can still build a varied day from training sections, natural singletrack and summit food stops. The long season is a real advantage, especially outside high summer, but wet roots and stones raise the difficulty quickly. The official rules require a helmet and strongly point riders toward proper protective gear.

Logistics are straightforward: arrive at the lower cable-car station, buy the bike ticket and start number, then check the current trail status and weather. The lift can stop in strong wind and closed trails are off limits. By public transport, travel via Graz and continue by bus to Sankt Radegund; it is a practical way to make the day work without bringing a car into the city.
