Åre deserves its big northern reputation. The bike park is not Alpine scenery, but the mountain scale is real: SkiStar lists 40 downhill trails and up to 853 vertical metres. This is more than a family lift lap; it is a full Åreskutan hillside with long traverses, open views, forest sections and technical riding.
The first practical point is simple: for the downhill area you need ÅrePasset Medium or Large. Green trails such as Serpentinen or Worldcup-leden help you settle in, blue Easy Rider is over 5 km and makes a brilliant first long descent, while red and black lines add roots, rocks, speed, drops and old race-track character. Complete beginners are officially advised to start more gently in Åre Trail Park.
Åre benefits from being a full resort. SkiStarshop at Åre Torg rents downhill and MTB bikes plus protective gear, helmets are mandatory in bike areas and the bike school works for children and adults. Larger distances and mountain weather mean the day needs more planning than in a small park.
Åre is best when you do not treat it as only a trail list. Morning view from the lift, daytime flow on blue lines or technical black sections, evening by the lake and village. For riders from southern Europe it feels different: less Mediterranean dust, more Nordic space and a summer day that refuses to end.
